Introduction
The Death of Christ was the divine mission which He came to fulfil on Earth, which God Almighty has destined for Him. Even without sin, an innocent man has to die. What greater love than this, that a man lay down his life for his friend. This love surpasses all love. Eph. 3:19
The freedom with which Christ delivered Himself up to death for mankind is one of the aspect of His sacrifice which touch our human hearts most profoundly.
The Bible shows that the spirit in man, which originally came from the Almighty God the Creator, returns to Him. Then, the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it. Eccl. 12:7.
Life and consciousness both perish when one dies. But the spirit is design to return to the source. And if the spirit of a man is found worthy, might be accepted in Lord’s kingdom. The heaven.
The brief mystery His Death
At the age of thirty years, Jesus was condemned to death. At that time crucifixion was the worst death. Only the worst criminal were condemned to be crucified. Yet it was even more dreadful for Jesus, unlike other criminals condemned to die by hanging, Jesus was to be nailed to the cross by His hands and feet.
Each nail was six to eight inches long. The nails were driven into His wrist not into His pals as commonly portrayed. There is a tendon in the wrist that extends to the shoulder. The Roman guards knew that when the nail were being hammered into the wrist, that tendon would tire and break, forcing Jesus to use His back muscles to support Himself so that He could breath.
Both of His feet were nailed together making Him to support Himself on the single nail that impaled His feet to the cross. Jesus could not support Himself with His legs due to the pain. So He was force to alternate between aching His back then, using His legs just to continue to breath.
Imagine the struggle, the pain, the suffering, the courage. Jesus Christ endured this suffering for three good hours.
Few minutes before He died Jesus stopped bleeding. He was just pouring out water from His wounds.
From common images we could see wound to His hands and feet and even the spear wound to His side. But before the nails and the spears Jesus was whipped and beaten. The whipping was so severe that it tore the flesh from his body. The beaten was so horrific that His face was torn and His beard ripped from His face.
The crown of thorns cut deep into His scalp. Most men would not have survived this torture.
He had no more blood to bleed out, only water poured from His wounds. All these without mentioning the humiliation He suffered after carrying His own cross for almost two kilometres, while the crowd spat in His face and threw stones. The cross was more that thirty kilogram of weight that made Him fall over and being helped by a believer Christopher.
Jesus Christ endured these experience, just to seize the key of hell and open the gate of heaven, so that you and I can have access to God. All we need to do is to believe that this blood He shared in the cross of Calvary can wash your sins away set you free.
The same power in the blood of Jesus Christ is the power that resurrected Him. That power is the secret of the supremacy that no other spirit can withstand the effect.
